Overview and General Fishing Itinerary
Start your trip fishing on the cleanest river in Japan, in the Niseko area. Niseko is traditionally known for its powder snow, but in the summer months it also has some of the best trout fishing in Japan. The waters are mountain fed and the main river fished works its way around the inactive volcano of Mount Yotei. Stunning views of the mountain are everywhere with an abundance of tributaries and streams to fish and target.
The main species you will find are Brown Trout, Rainbow Trout and White Spotted Char, all hard fighting fish that will put a serious bend in the rod, whether that’s on lure or fly. Due to the abundance of trees in Hokkaido and especially the Niseko area, you will find endless levels of fly life on the surface meaning dry fly can be incredibly effective in the warmer months.
From Niseko, you will then go hunting one of the rarest fish on the planet. The Japanese Huchen. The Japanese Huchen is found across Hokkaido and Eastern Russia and can grow in excess of 1.5m. You can catch these fish in either fresh or saltwater as the Huchen is in fact anadromous.
You will head towards east Hokkaido staying in the beautiful town of Furano. Furano is incredibly popular with Japanese tourists in the summer months for its flower fields and elegant beauty, but it’s also a great base to discover the east coast of Hokkaido and discover the unbelievable fishing that’s there. Along with Taimen, you have a chance of catching large Japanese Dace, Rainbows, Brown Trout and White Spotted Char.
Accommodation & Logistics
Within this package you will be provided airport transfers, accommodation and full guided fishing throughout for up to 3 people. Transfers are provided too and from the airport, too all fishing locations including between Niseko and Furano.
